Self-portrait Chronicles
The Self-portrait Chronicles project is an ongoing exploration of alternative photographic self-portraiture, challenging normative standards of representation while simultaneously subjecting concepts of self-image to structural interrogation. The goal has been to artificially construct representative tension between the two, through the inevitably disjunctive realization of oneself as whatever photographic fantasy that can be made to appear. This project has taken several forms over the years, from experiments with negative image photography to multiple exposures and projected images. This page is an archive of projects 1997-2002. Noteworthy at the time was the fact that every image in this early phase of the project maintained strict fidelity to analog practices. No digital techniques were used in the construction of these images.
