Biographical Statement


Ted Hiebert is a Canadian visual artist and theorist. His artworks have been shown across Canada in public galleries and artist-run centres, and in group exhibitions internationally. Recent exhibitions include: Werewolf Stories, Shift Studio (Seattle, WA, 2011), Of Brains & Magnets, Latitude 53 (Edmonton, AB, 2011), and Tangible Spiritualities, Xi'an Academy of Fine Art (Xi'an, China, 2010) Recent collaborative projects include More Often Than Always, Less Often Than Never, The Richmond Art Gallery (Richmond, BC, 2010), Eidola, Open Space Arts Society (Victobira, BC, 2009), Electronic Shamanism, InterAccess Electronic Arts (Toronto, ON, 2009), and the annual The World Telekinesis Competition in conjunction with The Noxious Sector Arts Collective of which he is a founding member. Hiebert's theoretical writings have appeared in, among others, The Psychoanalytic Review, Technoetic Arts, Performance Research and CTheory, as well as in catalogues and exhibition monographs. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal CTheory, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington Bothell.
